5 Delicious Dinners Made From Kitchen Staples

5 delicious dinners made from kitchen staples. Sounds like a dream right?  It has been a crazy hectic day. You had to get the kids ready for school and you have been running around all day between meetings and errands. Then comes the big question, what’s for dinner? All your leftovers are gone, you don’t want to have to run to the store, and take out definitely isn’t in your budget. Here are a few dinners you can make with ingredients you have on hand.

Quiche– Pie crust, bacon, cheddar cheese, 3 eggs, 1/4 cup heavy cream and 1/2 cup ranch dressing. Layer 3 cooked pieces of bacon on top of the pie crust. Top with 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Whisk together eggs, milk, cream and ranch dressing and pour over bacon and cheese. Bake at 375 for 40-50 minutes until center is set and top is brown. This is the first of five delicious dinners you can make from kitchen staples.

Quick Chicken Parmesan– Shake some Italian seasoning on thawed chicken breasts and cook on the stove until done. Meanwhile, cook one pound of spaghetti in boiling water. Heat spaghetti sauce in the microwave. When that is done, cook a bag of self steaming vegetables. Once chicken and spaghetti are done, plate and ladle with sauce. This is one of my favorite dinners to have from kitchen staples we have on hand.

Quesadillas– Add cheese and salsa to flour tortillas. Cook in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Another delicious dinner made from kitchen staples.

Take The Bite Out Of Your Budget: 6 Ways To Save On The Cost Of Your Pet

Looking for ways to save on the cost of your pet? There are 79.7 million households with pets in this country. As the pet population in our households grows, so do the costs. They are truly like having furry children. I own a cat and a rabbit and believe me, with just the two, the cost adds up. Here are some ways to help cut down on costs and still have a happy, healthy pet.

Adopt from a shelter. This will save you money from the start. Shelter animals are already spayed/neutered, up to date on their shots, and have been micro chipped. With a low adoption fee, it is definitely worth it. Other than a trip to the vet for a basic exam within a week of adoption, your costs should be pretty low to start.

Food-Food is expensive. Very expensive. I pay $45 for an 8.5 lb bag for my cat once a month from the vet. Even food at the grocery store or Walmart can be pricey. Look online for coupons or go to the manufacturer’s web site direct to find coupons. I have been able to save $5 or $6 dollars off a certain size bag at times. The brand I use even had a buy one bag get the second for a $1 promotion at one time. Also ask your vet if they have coupons available.

Vet Care-Medical care for animals is just as expensive as it is for humans. I never get out of my vet’s office for under $100. And I love my vet. However, there are other options. Banfield Pet Hospitals, located in PetSmart stores across the country, offer ‘Wellness Plans’ for pets that include a bundle of preventative care services and discounts designed to meet the needs of your pet. Another option is to call your local Big R/Tractor Supply Store and ask if they have any mobile vet services that come once a month. Our local Big R hosts a mobile vet service from the southern part of our state. They offer discounts on shots, flea treatments, micro chipping and other common, non invasive procedures. They are only at the store for one day during a certain time frame and you have to reserve a slot on their web site. But the discount in cost may be worth it. This is a big way to save on the cost of your pet.

Boarding-Taking your dog or cat to be boarded while you are away can be a costly expense. Why not get creative with it. Ask your friends when they will be out of town on business or on vacation. Then arrange to do a pet sitting swap. This person should be familiar with your animal which will make their care more personal. As long as your out of town days don’t conflict, you will have a pet sitting partner and your furry friends will be much happier at home.

A Way To Save On The Cost Of Your Pet As They Get Older.

If your animal needs subcutaneous fluids, do it at home-As our pets get older, diseases and other things can crop up. My cat Carlton had chronic kidney disease in his old age and needed subcutaneous fluids three times a week. Instead of taking him to the vet all the time, I opted to do it myself at home. The supplies I needed for the month only cost about $15. It also cut down the stress on Carlton, since he could be in his own surroundings. Sadly, this only helped for a short period of time, I lost him in September of 2014.

Ways To Save On Your Pet

Play with your animal. Exercise keeps them healthy just like it does us. So take the dog for a nice long walk. Cats can be a little more difficult to exercise. If you have a house that has stairs, maybe put the litter box in the basement and the food and water in the kitchen. Make sure your cat has lots of interactive toys to play with when you’re not there. This is another key element in saving on the cost of your pet.

Now you know six ways to save on the cost of your pet. Think about your pet’s health like you do your own. Healthy food, lots of water, exercise and good medical care. Keep these things in mind and you should have a long, happy life together.

Today is Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day

Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day is here! When you buy a blizzard today, part of the proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network.  Why do I love this so much? Well, I was born three months premature and spent four and a half months in our children’s hospital.  Some of the doctors and nurses that treated me and took care of me in the NICU are still working there today.  It’s important to me to give back when I can. Over the years I have helped with my Dad’s charity motorcycle ride, answered phones at the telethon, etc.  Being able to treat myself to some ice cream while giving back is a win-win for me.

So go out on your lunch break or stop by with your kids. Enjoy delicious blizzard favorites like  peanut butter cup, Oreo, french silk pie, or the blizzard of the month. Donating to Children’s Miracle Network is like giving back to your own kids and kids in the community. You hope you never have to use their services on an emergency basis, but you can take comfort knowing they will always be there. Go donate a miracle on Miracle Treat Day.

How To Make A Monthly Budget

How to make a monthly budget? A lot of people are confused by this.  Okay, so you’ve decided to take the bull by the horns and get your finances under control. You have listened to various financial experts and are going to start doing a budget every month. What information do you need? How long is this going to take?

I’ve been doing my budget for eight years and it usually takes me about an hour a month to write it all out. I do this before the following month even starts so I have a very good idea where we are at.

Here is how to make a monthly budget in just a few easy steps.

Step 1: I gather my checkbook, log into my bank account and grab a notebook. I take note of the balance in my checking account and then subtract what hasn’t come through yet. I write this number on the top left hand side of the page.

Step 2: I add my estimated paycheck amount to my bank balance for the first week.

Make A Budget

accountancy-1342883_1280

Step 3: At the top of the page I account for our expenses for the month in two columns. Then I make four columns for the rest of the month. I label each of these columns according to how many weeks in the month. (Week 1,2,3,4,etc.)

Step 4: I go back to the page with our expenses listed and make notes of the due dates for each bill then allot a certain amount for weekly expenses like gas and groceries. Then I look at the calendar and plan out what bills are going to be paid which week.

Step 5: I add all our bills for each week. Gas and groceries are included every week.

Step 6: Next, I go back to the balance in my notebook and start subtracting bills. If I get to the end of Week 1 and there’s a balance leftover then that money gets rolled over to the next week and added to the next paycheck. I keep doing this until all bills are accounted for. If there is a balance leftover at the end of the month, I split it and put half of it in savings. That is how to make a monthly budget.

When you first get started, it isn’t going to go smoothly. Things will come up, you will forget small items like birthday presents, flea treatment for the dog or your kid’s soccer cleats. It takes about 90 days before everything is smooth sailing, but the peace of mind you will have knowing exactly what comes in and goes out will be priceless. This is how to make a monthly budget.
